CHOQUEQUIRAO FIVE DAYS AND FOUR NIGHTS

Itinerary:

Day – 1: Cusco – Cachora – Capuliyoc – Santa Rosa

We will pick you up at 4am and drive 4 hours to Cachora where we will stop for breakfast. From Cachora you will drive for another 30 minutes to the beggining of the trek Capuliyoc (2900m / 9500ft.) Where you can enjoy snowcapped peaks in the distance and the Apurimac Valley spread out before us throughout the day, also after a few minutes walking we’ll get to have our first views of Choquequirao located on the far side of the valley. The area around Choquequirao is rich in wildlife as we make our way down in to the valley, after walking 4 hours aprox. You will stop in Chiquisca for lunch and wait until the sun set and have fresh afternoon to climb up to Santa Rosa

Our campsite for the night is at Santa Rosa (2200m / 7215ft.) which is on the other side of the Apurimac River. As the campsite is a little further along the trail than most groups go it is one of the quietest places to camp on the whole trek so we can enjoy the beautiful scenery around us without distraction.

Day – 2: Santa Rosa – Choquequirao

Today is probably the hardest day of the trek. You will start early morming to get to Choquequirao which involves ascending about 800m / 2624ft. over a distance of 14km / 8.7 miles through hot and humid conditions. It’s quite tough going but the views we get today mixed with the wide variety of flora and fauna. After about a 6 hours walk we will arrive to our campsite close to Choquequirao (3050m / 10,005ft.) and settle in for the night – Usually we arrive to campsite around 1pm, exactly to have lunch and if the weather is clear the views of the sunsetting from the place are amazing, we can trek to enjoy the sunset from the top of Choquequirao and we may be lucky enough to spot Condors soaring over the valley below.

Day – 3: Choquequirao

Today you will have a guided tour of all the main sites of interest throughout Choquequirao and then have some free time to explore by yourself. Choquequirao is one of the most extensive Inca sites to be discovered and a large portion of it has not been excavated yet. The location of the places are located far away each other, guide will check your conditiones and will take you to explore almost all of them.

Day – 4: Choquequirao – La Playa – Chiquisca

After an early breakfast we will start our journey back to Cusco. According the energy level it will be two hours back to Marampta from there will be 4 hours dawn to La playa where we will stop for lunch. After is another two hours up to Chiquisca the last campsite of the trek.

Day – 5: Chiquisca – Capuliyoc – Cusco

Wake up is early this day in order to climb up back to Capuliyoc when still is fresh, after breakfast it will be 4 hours all the up where you will have the last lunch and also where the transportation back to Cusco will be waiting. Is another 3 hours driving back to Cusco. If you have very good pace on the way back to Cusco there is thermal baths that you can enjoy. You will arrive to Cusco around 6pm dropping you in your hotel.

NEW RULES OF MACHU PICCHU 2019

While there is currently a loosely enforced time limit for tourist over the course of two daily shifts, the new Machu Picchu rules 2019 dictate that tourists will be strictly limited to four hours stays. Most visitors really don’t spend more than four hours exploring the archaeological site, on average. Officials need to exercise more control over the amount foot traffic at any given time to preserve the Inca sanctuary.

The new regulations mandate three daily shifts: one in the early morning (6 am to 9 am), one in the late morning (9 am to 12 pm), and one in the early afternoon (12 pm to 3 pm). Within these three shifts, tourists must sign up to enter at a certain hour (7 am, 1 pm, etc). This will help not only to regulate the number of visitors in the Inca Sanctuary at any given time, but also to standardize the schedule to minimize wait times outside the ruins.

The number of people allowed to enter the citadel per shift will be limited — 600 may enter at each hourly interval, so no more than 2,400 people will be in the ruins at a given time. Besides preventing overcrowding, officials say, this will help mitigate the impact of tourists on the sacred paths and stone stairs that crisscross Machu Picchu.
